Even this small deviation would open up the possibility of time travel and play havoc with longstanding notions of cause and effect. Einstein himself — the author of modern physics, whose theory of relativity established the speed of light as the ultimate limit — said that if you could send a message faster than light, “You could send a telegram to the past.”

CERN have a habit of producing 'scientific' programs, by which i mean they are full of bugs and should have been done by professionals rather than academics. That said, good effort to them for sticking with a piece of software like that.

Begs the question however, just how accurate or stable is the rest of the software this lot run on various other projects? oh say like a neutrino tracking super computer...

Software bugs? You mean it might just be bad number-crunching? Well, that's disappointing.

How about a bird that can bend time and space while it holds a bit of baguette in its' beak?

Quote

While most scientists would write off the event as a freak accident, two esteemed physicists have formulated a theory that suggests an alternative explanation: perhaps a time-traveling bird was sent from the future to sabotage the experiment. Bech Nielsen of the Niels Bohr Institute in Copenhagen and Masao Ninomiya of the Yukawa Institute for Theoretical Physics in Kyoto, Japan, have published several papers over the past year arguing that the CERN experiment may be the latest in a series of physics research projects whose purposes are so unacceptable to the universe that they are doomed to fail, subverted by the future.

I'm eagerly waiting for the results to be independently verified. Until they are, I'm super skeptical.
Holism is the way of the Cow. Blessed Cow is in all of us, this is to be fully understood. The Cow is in your mind with contemplation, your body as you eat Her, and your spirit where the Cow lies in us all. We must share our lives with Her Bovinity as well as Earthly bovines. With them one is to be rough and gentle, carnivorous and intimate. Our lives are but a farm yard, incomplete without its many pieces assembled. One which believes this not has not Her Grace.

It seems to make sense that something could move faster than the speed of light... speed could be infinite as long as a greater force was put on an object, i would think.

2nd Experiment by the same folks. They just ruled out some of the perceived problems with the original study.

Its a step closer. I'm willing to discount things like my earlier reservations on software bugs being responsible for example. But until there is proper peer review studies conducted and the results replicated using other kit, i remain sceptical.

Well, you guys are free to remain skeptical all you want. That's completely your choice.

I'll be over here putting the final touches on my time-traveling merkaba.

Neutrinos are affected only by the weak sub-atomic force, of much shorter range than electromagnetism, and gravity which is relatively weak on the subatomic scale, and are therefore able to travel great distances through matter without being affected by it.

'“The evidence is beginning to point towards the OPERA result being an artefact of the measurement,” said CERN Research Director Sergio Bertolucci, in a press release, adding that “it’s important to be rigorous, and the Gran Sasso experiments, BOREXINO, ICARUS, LVD and OPERA will be making new measurements with pulsed beams from CERN in May to give us the final verdict.”'

'Francis Halzen of the University of Wisconsin, has declared that the results "have put half the theorists out of business", and we can now basically say with certainty that these gamma-ray bursts are not the source of neutrinos. That goes against what had been the prevailing theoretical consensus, and so now physicists have to go looking for a new one.'

I guess coming up with a new theory that seems worth researching is the hard part? If not, I'll make something up. Neutrinos are what is left after bean farts dissipate, and are the source of all entropy. The big bang? Bean fart. There, go research it bitches!
