"Eckhart labeled the software a “rootkit,” and the Mountain View, California-based software maker threatened him with legal action and huge money damages. The Electronic Frontier Foundation came to his side last week, and the company backed off on its threats. The company told Wired.com last week that Carrier IQ’s wares are for “gathering information off the handset to understand the mobile-user experience, where phone calls are dropped, where signal quality is poor, why applications crash and battery life.”
The company denies its software logs keystrokes. Eckhart’s 17-minute video clearly undercuts that claim."

the other side of that monologue btw
There is no truth.
All information is irrelevant.
History and media messages are mere narratives.
Truth is what you choose to believe.
All rumors are true.

So, how do we go about getting rid of this rootkit? I've yet to see anything about that.

Interesting.. I went looking for it on my phone but it couldn't find any references to it. Mine is an old original Nexus One and it appears it's not installed on the google sanctioned phones.

I am being nice to you, get it? Im telling you the correct perspective so that you can see the error in your views, and so that you may reform and become better."

How To Remove It From Your Device
If you want to remove it from your device, you have two choices. Either flash a custom ROM that doesn’t contain Carrier IQ (as described above), or use Eckhart’s Logging Test App to remove it. Both solutions require rooting your phone.
To remove it with the Logging Test App, download the original app and then buy the $0.99 Pro licence from the Android Market. Then, open it up, hit the Menu button, and tap “Remove CIQ”. This will completely remove it from your device.

Glad I use CyanogenMod (although that means I'm forced to trust them too.)
