There's an R5 of Nim's Island that just came out - has anyone seen that one? It's starring Jodie Foster.

Before the devil knows you're dead

It took me quite a while before I decided to pick up this movie, guess I circulated about half an hour before I finally dropped my eyes on it. I don't know if the movie industry has dried out or that the local movie store keeps a low taste, I would assume the later.

It's a tight and thrilling story about two brothers who both faces economical downfalls and decides to rob their parent's jewellery shop in the belief that the insurance company will cover the expenses. It first starts off as an easy going plan, but it collapses in different directions and serves up for unexpected consequences that'll put the brothers in an atmosphere of total chaos. Philip Seymour Hoffman is the grand star with his exclusive performance, one of the best actors out there today, imo.

It's a hard-knockin' movie with an uprising tempo, I never got bored. The scenes are randomly compressed in a skillful way, impressive.

That thar is a good 'un, uh-huh. That's really all I have to say about it.

Sunshine is a good 'un, too. I'm not much for reviews these days.

Hi.

Some recent watches
I've been watching a lot of Asian horror lately. The Pang brothers.
A wiki page of Asian horror titles

13 Beloved
- about a down on his luck guy who gets a mysterious call from a game show offering riches to complete 13 increasingly strange and difficult tasks
Ab-normal Beauty - an art student witnesses a car accident that awakens an obsession with death within her
Ju-on - original version of The Grudge
Old Boy - excellent Korean film that deals with revenge
Shutter - the original. Very creepy feeling horror
The Eye - another original to a US remake.
Hellevator, The Bottled Fools - a strange, surreal feeling, futuristic film that takes place almost entirely within a large elevator
Ringu - original version of The Ring. I actually like the american remake better
A Tale Of Two Sisters - really good supernatural thriller.
Tetsuo, The Ironman - fucked up, surreal acid trip

Some non-Asian films

Logans's Run - classic 70s sci-fi
Death Race 2000 - more 70s sci-fi. Much fun.
Lord Of The Rings Trilogy - finally got around to seeing it and wanted to watch it over again right after
The City Of Lost Children - French film that feels like a Tim Burton fairy tale
Carnival Of Souls - 60s horror classic
The Usual Suspects - great crime film
Grindhouse - loved Planet Terror, hated Death Proof
Mudhoney - Russ Meyer fun
Gummo - interesting Harmony Korine film, which is a series of unrelated vignettes about hick town, ohio

And a few documentaries

Born Into This - good documentary about Charles Bukowski. Interviews and footage with everything from him attacking his wife to breaking down in tears, with a trip to his grave site
Hubert Selby Jr: It\ll Be Better Tomorrow - about the writer
Dogtown and the Z-Boyz - about the short lived 70s skater group
The Short Films Of David Lynch - Lynch recalls some of his early days while displaying some of the work

Triumph Of The Nerds - great, great, great documentary about the early days of the personal computer ending at the era of the release of Win95. Interviews with Gates, Ballmer, Jobs, Wozniak, Larry Ellison. Recounting the birth of the early working partnership of IBM and Microsoft, Apple computers, footage and interviews about the Altair, Homebrew Computer Club, Jobs seeing a GUI and mouse at Xerox. I have to watch this film a least a couple times a year.

I saw the newest version of "The Incredible Hulk" last night.

Hot damn! It's really good.

It's one of the best, if not THE best superhero movie I have ever seen.

They were able to stay true to the style of Ang Lee's earlier movie (it's not a sequel; people are calling it a reboot) and with it's tortured romance storyline its much more adult than the Fantastic Four or Ironman movies.

The acting (Tim Roth, Liv Tyler, Edward Norton, William Hurt) is fantastic, the writing is tightly compressed and I don't really remember any boring parts in it.

Lots of nods to the old 80s show that you might not notice if you're too young to have caught the old one but, it's ok you don't need to.

side story: I actually got to meet Lou Ferrigno a few years ago at Gencon in San Diego. It was just as the convention was opening up and nobody was in yet. He was standing by himself next to the entrance. I asked to take a picture with him and he promptly asked for five bucks. I just skipped it. He does the voice of the Hulk in this movie. Yes! The Hulk talks! I'm not going to tell you what he says 'cause when you finally hear it you will get chills like I did.

Man, it's so damn cool that all these Marvel superhero movies are coming out now. I hear there's a Captain America and Thor movie in the works as well...culminating in an Avengers movie.

Man, that's going to be awesome!

Good grief, I'd forgotten all about how they'd bastardized poor Thor. With that helmet, it looks like you could have shoved a couple of C batteries up his ass, turned him upside down, and used him as a vibrator. OOOOHHHHDDDDIIIINNNNN!

lulzvibartor

__________

haaaaaay!

I just remembered! I saw Bill Bixby once too!

He was pulling out of the KTLA sound stage lot in a beautiful red convertible something-or-another. It was about three months before he died. Sad.

One of the cool things about living in Los Angeles is that you get to see stuff like that from time to time.

Deadwood Park (2007)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0437150/
Cheap horror on a budget, overly long, did not keep my attention which may lead to my confusion abotu the point of the story line. Acting was bad too.

Requiem (2006)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0454931/
German language movie. Wel done, stuck to the time period perfectly, great acting, not so much a ghost story but a disturbing look at insanity. Enjoyed it.

Freeze Me (2000)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0266555/
Japanese language movie , you get fucking irritated with the main character but a truly disturbing tale. Rape and violence and a look into Japanese culture. Disturbing and you can see the directors intentions. Would watch this again.

Ŕ l'intérieur (2007)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0266555/
French language movie.. wow what do you say one of those horro movie classics. Gore fest.. but done in a way that this is no slasher flick. Think something like single white female slashed with texas chainsaw massacre. Bloody, amazingly hot pregnant chick... as IMDB says do not watch this if you are pregnant.. its as disturbing as the cover.

Fingerprints (2006)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0266555/
Rather average horror movie based on an urban legend. Not great not really terrible watchable for horror fans.

"The L Word" (2004)
TV series 2004-????
The L-word Season 5
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0266555/
I am a self confessed L Word addict and season 5 did nothing to disappoint. Favorite characters back, lots of steamy hot lesbian sex and the best 2 characters getting back together.. Im so sad they are finishing after season 6 and am already waiting for season 6.. I NEED MY L WORD FIX GODDAMIT.

Isolation (2005)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0446719/
Really hard movie to describe without making it sound bad.. think genetic engineering gone wrong.. alien predator style movie not bad for a low budget movie quite enjoyed it.

...to the asian horror:

Suicide Circle
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0312843/

..really scared me the first time I saw it.. may amuse me now blink.gif

..and always in my personal Top-10:

Ghost Dog
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0165798/

..about Samurai, the Hagakure, very silent movie, thoughtfully, melancholic, with Forest Whitaker.

You'd like Ichi the Killer as well then.

And yeah... I've heard Tetsuo was great - I tried ordering it from Amazon but it never arrived.

Sister, sister! Time to play
What Do Human Children Say!
"No, please no!" they wail and cry,
"Save me, I don't want to die!"
Sister, sister! Hear that noise?
That's me breaking all my toys!
The basement is a sticky mess.
...I play rough, I must confess.

Thought I was aiming at the right Condor movie, but I was wrong. Thanks for the update. The only Condor movie I've watched is The CondorMan, a classic from '81 - yay, it's been a long time ever since. Anyways, going to watch 'em both (again).
